Is fandom-art the fast food art group?

Fandoms are a nice place to stop in once and a while, see what's shaking, socialize with the interesting (and quirky) people. But like a Big Mac, it's pnly good once and a whilenot every day, not every meal. It can be grossly unhealthy for you, and addictive as well. I think that the inherit problem is that fandoms don't breed diversity, only the recycling of same theme over and over again.

I'm getting back into the varied levels of arts again after a longer rut than I'd ever like to admit, drawing people, dragons, critters and donuts. I'm realizing how much I enjoy the sheer diversity once again, something which I had forgotten. Starting 3D again, too, going to finish the Biomech I'd started so long ago.

I don't hate my job, nor do I love it. However, it's driving me crazy... mainly because I can't create.

Working at Camp Chaos was a blessing because I could do my job, but still create and design for the job when I went home. It gave me a lot of things to look forward to. I realize as an artist creating is the most important thing one can do, and when a person stops feeding that creativity... they begin to turn stale.

I decided to go back to the job pool and look for new work. I'm not quitting, but putting out my feelers. I want a job where creativity can take place, even if it's not the primary aspet of the job. Answering phones and doing techsupport is alright for a temporary position, but it's finally started to eat at my heart. There's nothing I can really put my time into and see results. Numbers in a log does little.

So, I need that mix. That job where I can mix my skills, have something where I can toss my talent into the pool. I don't mind 12 hour days, so long as I can have something at the end of the day to show for what I did. Answering phones doesn't build a community.

I'm working on writing up some drafts for some "fan sites". Mainly Planetside and my Chromatic Dragon art/mythos site. Planetside has jack for dedicated artists, and their official website is (pathetically) two years out of date. I'm taking part in the Guerilla Marketing to help draw in new players (since I don't want my game to die!). And then I've gotta finish Cara and Anthony's site alongside them.

I figure it'll keep me busy until I can start getting some job nibbles.

Preyfar here.

I'm starting a new journal because, frankly, I'm trying to simplify things a big, so I created a journal where I can post more... personal entries. My [info]preyfar journal mutated into something beyond my control, so it's nice to have a 'safe haven' where I can post more serious thoughts, art and more. So this is saner corner, less corrupted corner of my mind and plans for the future. :)

Among them, I recently registered Inkjammer as an incorporation, LLC. I want to get into producing books and web sites for artists -- tutorials, professional-level portfolio sites and more. More focused work. In the past year I've gotten a bit more sidetracked from my goals, and that's not a fun thing.

More good stuff soon!

Going to upload www.caramitten.com for Cara tomorrow, and starting to build up other sites and do art. And stuff. Been kind of slack, but... lots of happy in the near future. :)

So yeah, uhm... HI!
